Abstract

A wood preservative composition comprising an oil-based thixotropic alkyd resin, an oil-based oxidising alkyd resin, an organic solvent, a drier for the resin, pigmentary material and a biocide. The wood preservative compositions of the present invention can therefore be seen to be thixotropic, providing a long lasting highly adherent film, which is designed to be relatively porous so that moisture is not trapped in the wood substrate with the result that the adherency is considerably improved. Moreover, the relatively porous nature of the film permits the biocide to migrate into the wood and therefore remain effective for a long period of time.
