Abstract

<P1> A vulcanizing machine for rubber-like strips, of the type incorporating a heatable drum 11, guide rolls 13, 14 and 15, and a continuously-movable endless tensionable band 12 which partly encircles the rolls and an arcuate portion of the drum for progressing the strip around the arcuate portion and for simultaneously applying pressure to the strip, is characterized by means 19-22 acting on the roll 14 for applying initial pressure through the medium of the band 12 as the strip is fed into the bite of the band and drum, and also by an additional pressure roll 25, which is located on the inside of the band and in contact therewith so as to be influenced by the tension exerted by the band, for applying a higher pressure on the strip at a position remote from the bite, subsequent to a length of the strip being confined between the band and drum sufficient to prevent "roll-back" at the bite. Both initial and additional pressures are adjustable; the additional pressure roll 25 can be adjusted circumferentially of the drum e.g. by means of screw gearing 49-53. Arms 16 carry the roll 15 which by means of a piston 18 maintains the band 12 under tension. Brackets on the arms carry a stripper roll 35 which separates the cured strip from the band.
