Abstract

832,101. Non-metallic springs. HAIRLOCK CO. Ltd. Dec. 24, 1957 [July 19, 1957; Sept. 27, 1957], Nos. 22912/57 and 30387/57. Class 108(3) [Also in Group XVII] A shock-absorbing pad adapted to support articles in a box &c. comprises moulded blocks 1 of resiliently compressible cushioning material e.g. rubberized hair or other fibre, sponge rubber &c. hinged together by flexible material 2 interconnecting adjacent blocks and forming flexible hinges 3. The pads may be cut and bent to form corner pieces or wrapped around the article (see Fig. 8). The blocks may have recesses 4 and separate moulded blocks may be secured adhesively to a sheet of cloth or rubber. The moulding process causes the surface layers 5 to be stiffer than the remaining material giving better shock absorption. The pads may be folded double and secured by barbed staples. Alternate blocks may be omitted and the connecting hinge may be set in from the bottom surface. Specifications 802,444 and 802,445 are referred to.
