Abstract

Corrosion-inhibiting compositions comprise a major amount of an inert oil solvent containing an imidazoline of formula <FORM:0832038/III/1> where R is the residue of a C10-20 fatty acid and R1 is hydroxyalkyl. Steel coupons are dipped in kerosene solutions of some of these.ALSO:The invention comprises imidazolines of formula <FORM:0832038/IV (b)/1> where R is the residue of a C10-20 fatty acid and R1 is hydroxyalkyl. They may be prepared by heating equimolar quantities of a C10-20 fatty acid and a substituted 2 - methyl - 1,2 - propanediamine having a hydroxyalkyl group attached to the amino group in the 1-position to about 150-300 DEG C. and removing the theoretical 2 mols of water during the heating period. The products have anti-corrosive properties.
