Abstract

831,965. Electric indicating systems. OFFICE NATIONAL D'ETUDES ET DE RECHERCHES AERONAUTIQUES O.N.E.R.A. March 19, 1957, No. 8999/57. Class 40 (1). The proportion of a paramagnetic gas in a mixture is determined by using the thermomagnetic effect by which a heated paramagnetic gas moves from a region of strong to a region of weak magnetic field. In the arrangement shown the gas is introduced into a passage 4 bored in the polepieces of a magnet and led to the space between the polepieces in the central part la of which the field is uniform and in the outer part 16 non-uniform. Heating is provided by filaments a1, a2' b1, b2 mounted in non-magnetic material on the ends of the polepieces. The inner filaments are more cooled by the passage of the gas radially than the outer and the outer and inner filaments are connected in a Wheatstone bridge circuit to detect the difference. The heating filaments may be wound in the form of a spiral of which the inner part forms one arm of the bridge and the outer part another.
