Abstract

831,922. Packaging-machines. ALPURA A.G. March 24, 1958 [March 26, 1957], No. 9424/58. Class 94(1). [Also in Group VI] Apparatus for packaging liquids and materials under sterile conditions in which a tube is formed, filled and sealed at intervals transversely to produce packages, is characterised by means to sterilise the formed tube above the level of the contents prior to sealing. A web 5 is tubed about a former 3 and sealed longitudinally by a shoe 7 and inner roller 9. Through it passes a filling pipe 21 supporting a sterilising heater 23 which may heat by radiant, hot fluid or induction means the inner surface of the tube. The outer surface is cooled by a liquid or air etc., spray, liquid being collected by means 34. A sterile gaseous medium may be fed into the tube to displace air above the contents during packaging, the medium passing through a conduit coaxial with the feed pipe, Fig. 2 (not shown). The tube is sealed by heated jaws 10, 11 on chains 12, 13, two sealing sets being provided to produce tetrahedral packages.
