Abstract
831,688. Ball mills. NORDBERG MANUFACTURING CO. May 16, 1956 [May 27, 1955; Sept. 29, 1955; March 21, 1956; April 13, 1956],No 15246/56. Class 59 [Also in Group XXXIV] A ball mill designed to receive and discharge material continuously during operation, comprising a bowl C adapted to contain grinding balls and rotatable simultaneously about its own axis Y and about a convergent axis X has a feed plate 58 at or near the point of intersection Z of the axes X and Y for receiving material fed into the bowl through an inlet 59 and throwing it outwardly against the grinding balls. The two rotations are preferably in opposite senses. The bowl is rotatably mounted on a sub-frame B which is rotatably mounted on the main frame A of the mill. The sub-frame is driven from a motor through bevel gears 25, 26 and a pinion 23 which meshes with a gear 22 secured to the hub 14 of a spindle H. The bowl is driven from another motor through bevel gears 25a, 26a and a pinion 40 meshing with a gear wheel 41 on a shaft 42 which carries at its upper end a pinion 43 which meshes with an idler gear wheel 44 in turn meshing with a gear wheel 45 secured to the hub 14a of the bowl spindle F. Ground material is discharged from the bowl through a series of circumferentiallyarranged arcuate passages G. Lubricating oil supplied from a pump through an inlet branch 5a passes upwardly through an axial oil passage 42a in the shaft 42 and escapes through a top fitting 61 which has a pin hole from which an oil jet is delivered upwards through the top wall 31 of the sub-frame B. This oil jet lubricates the bowl roller bearings in the sub-frame and is then flung downwards and outwards through apertures 31a into the interior of the sub-frame. A pump 62 recirculates oil which tends to collect near the walls of the sub-frame. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), outlets for ground material are provided both at the top and bottom of the bowl which contains balls of three different sizes. In a further modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the bowl is provided at different heights thereof with supplementary discharge holes.
