831,648. Electric indicating systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 10, 1956 [May 10, 1955], No. 14581/56. Class 40 (1). The moisture content of a fluid medium is determined by arranging a diaphragm of moisture absorbent material in the cross-section of a housing through which the fluid can flow. In the arrangement of Fig. 1 a pump 2 circulates oil under test through a main conduit 1. A valve 3, when closed, directs the oil through a by-pass 4 having inlet and outlet valves 5, 6. In the by-pass is a cell 7 shown in more detail in Fig. 2 and consisting of two flanged pipe sections 7a, 7b of insulating material. The flanges are clamped'together on to a spacer 12 of polytetrafluorethylene which prevents crushing of the moisture-sensitive sheet 11. Perforated disc electrodes 10 are held in contact with the moisture-sensitive member by gaskets 13. The electrodes are connected to a resistancemeasuring circuit (Fig. 1) by leads 14, 14<1>. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the moisture sensitive member is mounted in the gate of a gate valve so that by screwing down the valve it may be inserted in the flow. In a further arrangement (Fig. 4, not shown) the humiditysensitive member is mounted in a tube through which the fluid under test is drawn by a hand pump. The moisture-sensitive member is of non-woven compressed fabric of longitudinally aligned intersecting fibres of filaments of pure regenerated cellulose or rayon which are bound together with a binder of the same material
