Abstract
An aqueous solution of a salt with a pH not less than 8.4, when free from dissolved CO2, and which at least is equal to the pH of a saturated solution of the corresponding bicarbonate is used for absorption and desorption of CO2 from gas mixtures without the application of heat. The desorption may be effected with an inert gas or by change of pressure. Exemplified reagents are phenates, chlorophenates, molybdates, arsenates, arsenites, sulphites, selenites, phosphites, hypochlorites, maleates, malates, sucrinates, citrates, malonates, borates and cacodylates and particularly the alkali-metal secondary phosphates and chromates. The reagent should preferably contain a surface-active agent.
