Abstract

831,445. Magnetic recording heads. MARRIOTT, P. A. Sept. 12, 1958 [June 12, 1957], No. 18549/57. Class 40 (2). In a magnetic sound head the magnetic circuit is formed in part by a ferromagnetic member 5 held in a moulding 1 of synthetic plastic material extending sufficiently to act as a handle for said member during application of a winding 15 thereon and subsequent assembly of the head. A complete recording and reproducing head comprises two such units forming mirror reflections of each other and held together by a binding 12. An end of each winding is taken to a terminal wire 2 moulded in the plastic member, the remaining ends being connected together to form a continuous winding. An erazing head comprises one only of the above units, and has a C-shaped ferromagnetic member 35 clamped thereon, as by bindings 36, 37, to complete the magnetic circuit, the moulding in this instance being provided with a pair of wire terminals 21, 22. The heads may be mounted in a brass capsule having a window through which the parts of the ferromagnetic members forming the non-magnetic gap protrude, and the capsule filled with a hardenable filler such as an epoxy resin.
