Abstract

831,380. Moulding sheaths on rotor blades. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. May 9,1958 [May 9, 1957], No. 14881/58. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXXIII] , A propeller or helicopter blade is made by covering the inner member 26 (see Group XXXIII) with a synthetic fabric 36, such as fibre glass, impregnated with an adhesive resin, applying a layer 38 of expandable material such as nylon-reinforced copolymer resin or sponge rubber and then a second layer 40 of synthetic fabric, placing the thus partially fabricated blade in a die cavity and applying heat so that the expandable material sponges and in expanding forces the fabric layer 36 against the inner member 26 and the layer 40 against the contour of the die cavity. Specification 719,701 is referred to.
