Abstract

793,949. Deicing aircraft. T.K.S. (AIRCRAFT DE-ICING), Ltd. Nov. 9, 1955 [Nov. 12, 1954], No. 32895/54. Class 4. A device for distributing liquid, e.g. for deicing the leading edge of a rotary-wing aircraft rotor blade, comprises an outer wall 1, Fig. 1, of porous material, an inner wall 2 of porous material, forming a cavity 3 with the outer wall, a third impervious wall 4 forming a cavity 5 with the inner wall 2, means for introducing liquid or a liquid and air mixture into the cavity 3, means for introducing air into the cavity 5, and means for rotating the device so that the liquid and air are urged outwardly. Fig. 2 shows an alternative embodiment in which a nickel-copper alloy extrusion 7 is set in the leading edge of a rotor blade, the extrusion having a transverse portion 8 formed with a spanwise series of holes or slots 9. A porous outer wall 10 and inner wall 12 form cavities 13, 14 used as before. Specification 724,019 is referred to.
