Abstract

830,679. Sensing record tapes. ATVIDABERGS INDUSTRIER A.B. Aug. 13, 1957, No. 25592/57. Class 106 (1). A punched record card or tape 1 having columns of holes 3 is sensed capacitively by high-frequency probes 5, one for each column position, which co-operate with a common electrode 4 on the other side of the record, each probe being connected to a terminal of a highspeed electronic switch 8 adapted to scan the probes in succession during the sensing of each column of the record by successively connecting the probes with an amplifier 9. The change of capacity between a probe and the electrode due to the presence of a hole provides an output signal. Capacitors 7 connected in the probe circuits are adjusted so that no output is produced when a blank area of the type is in the sensing position. Sprocket holes 2 provide a timing pulse in each sensing cycle which initiates the operating cycle of the switch 8. The probes are screened from one another.
