Abstract

830,581. Friction clutches. RAYBESTOSMANHATTAN Inc. April 8, 1958, No. 11073/58. Class 80 (2). A friction clutch plate comprising an annular disc 10 with friction composition facings 11 bonded to each side has a plurality of circumferential edge portions 15 partially severed from the plate alternate positions being transversely bowed to provide a self-separating action to the clutch. The portions 15 are partially served from the plate by arcuate slots 16. The friction surface may be composed of 60-70% copper; 10-25% iron, lead or tin; and 5-25% non-metallic friction modifying materials such as graphite, silica, ceramics, &c. The plate may be used in an oil immersed clutch in which case the facing may be grooved.
