Abstract
A slag, suitable as a concrete aggregate, is obtained from the residues of refuse incinerators by homogenizing the residue after magnetically separating iron, charging on to a moving sintering grate, igniting and sintering by the known down draught sintering technique. The residues contain fuel and this is adjusted to a calorific value equivalent to a coke content of 6-8% either by materials of low fuel content, e.g. building debris, or materials rich in fuel, e.g. furnace ash or boiler flue ash.
