Abstract

829,813. Ore samplers. MARCONA MINING CO. June 17, 1957 [June 27, 1956], No. 19074/57 Class 58. A machine for removing samples from a mass of material on a moving conveyer, 10, comprises a sampling car, means for supporting said car for travel in the direction of the conveyer, means for causing the car to travel at the same speed and in the same direction as the conveyer, and means carried by the car and driven transversely of the conveyer for removing samples whilst the car and conveyer are moving at the same speed. The car carries a shoot 67 and means preventing spillage of sample between conveyer and shoot, said means being a plate 66 provided with a lug 73 at each side. The plate 66 and shoot 67 can slide laterally, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) the plate 66 being urged into conveyer-engaging position by springs whilst sampling proceeds. When sampling has finished a roller 84 engages a cam and urges the plate away from the conveyer. A hopper 68 carried by the car receives the sample. The sample is removed from the conveyer by a scoop assembly 44 actuated by chains 54. The car straddles the belt and for sampling, the scoop assembly moves down to engage the ore on the conveyer. Should the scoop mechanism fail the ore will carry the scoop assembly with it but an incline on the rail track at a point beyond where normal sampling would have finished raises the car and thereby the scoop assembly out of engagement with the ore, thus preventing damage.
