Abstract

829,550. Floor polishing machines. CLEMENTS Ltd., A. E. Aug. 16, 1956 [Aug. 25, 1955], No. 24508/55. Class 138(1). A floor polisher of the manually operated kind comprises a body 1, Fig. 3, a brush 6 mounted for rotation on the body with its lower portion in contact with or adjacent the floor, a propelling handle 10 connected with the body and capable of least limited movement relative thereto, and unidirectional mechanical driving means 15, 16 connecting the handle and the brush whereby relative movement between the handle and the body in one direction rotates the brush. The handle 10 is pivotally connected to a slide member 11 having, a T guide 12 slidably engaging a corresponding slot in the end wall 3 of the body 1 and two studs 13 engaging in slots 14 in the side walls of the body. Pivotally connected to the slide 11 are pawl arms 16 engaging ratchet gears 15 on the end spigots 7 for the brush 6. The spigots 7 engage in slots 8 in the opposite sides of a casing 4 extending from one side of the body 1 and having a longitudinal slot 5 and a flexible rubber lip 9. The axis of the two spigots is below the axis of the casing so that the lower brush bristles are compressed and some project through the slot 5. The bottom 2 of the body 1 is covered by a polishing pad 20, 21 held in position by a pivoted spring clip 22 and the casing 4 is provided with a cover plate 23 hinged at 24. Polish spread on the brush is wiped onto the lip 9 which spreads it on the floor. In another construction the handle is pivoted on the body 1 concentrically with the brush axis and pawl and ratchet mechanism acts between the handle and brush.
