Abstract

1388558 Floor cleaning machines R G DIXON & CO Ltd 18 May 1973 [14 Aug 1972] 37887/72 Heading A4F A rotary floor cleaning machine comprises a driven shaft 9 carried by a head unit 1 on which is mounted a support plate 10 for a rotary floor treating element 4, e.g. a brush, mop, or pad, the plate 10 being movable between an operating position, in which it is held by a releasable latch 21, and a free position spaced, e.g. as shown, from the unit 1, the element 4 being respectively held in and released from engagement with the driven shaft 9 in the operative and free positions of the plate 10. In the illustrated embodiment two rotary brushes 4 are each engaged in a V-shaped indentation 11 Fig. 2 (not shown) having an antifriction polytetrafluorethylene liner 12 received in a groove 7 in a brush collar 5, whereby to enable changing of the brushes by releasing the latch 21 to free the brushes 4 from the shafts 9 and then moving the machine rearwardly leaving the brushes in position on the floor. The latch 21 is operated by a handle 21a against the action of a spring 24 to release hooks 25 on the latch from pivot pins 14 connecting the plate 10 to support members 15, 18 pivotally connected to the unit 1. Driving spigots 9a on the shaft 9 engage in brush recesses 6, and a rounded end 27 on each shaft 9 co-operates with a rounded gimbal surface 26 on a brush 4 to permit tilting of the brush during operation. The floor cleaning machine may be a scrubbing and suction drying machine as described in Specification 1388557. Specification 1388559 is also referred to.
