Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0829176/IV (b)/1> where R represents an alkylene group having 2-6 carbon atoms, R1 and R2 are the same or different and represent alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radicals having 1-5 carbon atoms, or R1 and R2 together with -N< represent a pyrrolidine, piperidine, hexahydroazepine, morpholine, piperazine, pyrrolidinol, or piperidinol radical, and X represents hydrogen, chlorine, or a methyl or methoxy radical; and acid addition salts thereof, including penicillinates (especially a bis-penicillin G and V salt) and a salt of N-acetyl-4-hydroxy-m-arsanilic acid; and the preparation thereof by treatment of 1-halo-4-methyl-7-X-10-thiaxanthenone with a diamine of the general formula <FORM:0829176/IV (b)/2> preferably in pyridine solution; and, if desired, addition of an acid or ammonium salt to the product to form an acid addition salt, or anion exchange of a mineral acid salt by treatment with a metal or ammonium salt of another acid. The products are useful as antiparasitic agents. Diamines of general formula II above may be prepared by treatment of a dialkylaminoalkylhalide of the general formula <FORM:0829176/IV (b)/3> with aqueous methylamine in the presence of copper powder and potassium carbonate; or by treatment of an amine of the general formula <FORM:0829176/IV (b)/4> with a halo-aliphatic acid methylamide of formula halogen-alkylene-CONHCH3 and reduction of the product with lithium aluminium hydride.
