Abstract
Isomeric mixtures of disubstituted aromatic compounds are resolved by contacting with a crystalline metallic alumino-silicate molecular sieve having a pore size of 6-15 Angstrom units at 292-650 DEG F. Mixtures which may be separated include the dimethyl, diethyl, dihalo, dinitro, dicarboxylic acid and disulphonic acid derivatives of benzene. In separating xylenes, the meta- and ortho-substituted derivatives are adsorbed by the sieve and the para-derivative is thus obtained pure. Adsorbed materials are readily displaced by steam.
