Abstract

A thermoplastic synthetic resin composition comprises (a) 44 to 70% of a polyvinyl halide or a copolymer composed predominantly of a polymerized vinyl halide, (b) 23 to 40% of a resinous copolymer of styrene or a nuclear substituted styrene and a copolymerizable nitrile of an alpha-substituted, beta-unsaturated acid having less than six aliphatic carbon atoms, said copolymer containing from 15 to 40% of said nitrile, and (c) 7 to 16% of a rubbery copolymer of a conjugated diolefinic compound and methyl isopropenyl ketone or acrylonitrile, there being one solubilizing group formed by the nitrile or ketone group for each 11 to 30 carbon atoms of the rubbery copolymer, this number of carbon atoms being calculated by a formula given in the Specification. Component (a) may be polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinylidene chloride or bromide, vinyl acetate or propionate, acrylic acid, methyl or ethyl acrylate, acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile. Component (b) may be a copolymer of styrene, 3,4-dichlorostyrene or a dimethylstyrene and acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, ethacrylonitrile or chloroacrylonitrile. The conjugated diolefinic compound of component (c) may be butadiene, isoprene, 2,3-dimethyl butadiene, cyanoprene, chloroprene or 2-phenyl butadiene-1,3.
