Abstract

828,448. Moulding hollow articles. PLAX CORPORATION. June 25, 1956, No. 19657/56. Class 87(2). A hollow neck portion 14 is injection moulded from a thermoplastic, e.g., polythylene, through an annular nozzle 1 into a neck mould 7 which is then drawn away from the nozzle and a length of tubular plastic 15 extruded integral with the moulded neck 14, the walls of the tubular extrusion being pinched between portions 8a, 8b of a sectional blow mould so as to close the tubing along a line adjacent the nozzle 1 and simultaneously to separate it from the plastic material in the nozzle, thereafter blowing and thereby expanding the tubing for the first time into shaping contact with the closed blow mould. The neck mould 7, a mandrel 6, and a sleeve 12 together define the neck cavity, the sleeve being slidaby received within the neck mould and its end serving to form the lip of the neck. The nozzle 1 may inject and extrude the plastic in an upward direction in which case the neck mould, mandrel, sleeve and blow mould are above the nozzle. The neck mould, mandrel, and sleeve may, together with the blow mould, be located on a rotary turret table. Specification 564,350 is referred to.
