Abstract

828,299. Mechanical toy figures. COLLISCHAN, F. Feb. 28, 1956 [Feb. 28, 1955 ; Feb. 24, 1956], No. 6204/56. Class 132(3) The body of a toy bird contains a clockwork mechanism 6 for moving a ball 12 in a cylinder 13 thus producing air flow in a tubular whistle member 15 connected to the cylinder. The pitch of the sound produced by the whistle is varied by movement of a ball 17 longitudinally in the tubular member 15, the ball being moved by means of a bell-crank lever 19 which is caused to rock on its pivot 20 by a cam 23 on the clockwork winding shaft 7; the ball 12 is reciprocated by a rod 11 on a flywheel crank-pin 10. The head, beak, wings and tail of the bird are also moved by the clockwork mechanism. A bush 30 secured to the head is rotatable in a plate 31 and carries a radial member 29 engaged by the free end of the bell-crank arm 21 on which a disc 24 is provided for engagement with a rod 32 bearing on a pivoted beak member 33. Movement of the head from side to side and opening and closing of the beak is thus caused by the rocking action of the bell-crank lever 19. The wings are pivoted to the body and are raised and lowered by rods 36, 37 which are connected to the arm 21 of the bell-crank lever. The tail 2, pivoted at 26, is raised and lowered by a link 25 also connected to the bell-crank lever. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the whistle member and the means for producing the air-flow are formed as a single unit.
