A shelf unit for supporting a chassis unit or sub unit in a vertical rack comprises a rectangular perforated deck having downward extending walls on two opposite sides thereof and adapted to be secured to the upright members of the rack, and an inclined deflector plate mounted between said walls and adapted to deflect air rising within the rack to the outside of the rack. In the embodiment shown, a shelf unit has a deck 1 formed with perforations 2 and a front panel 4 formed with perforations 5 and ears 6 for securing the deck to the front posts of the rack. A deflector plate 7 is attached to the insides of the walls 3 such that the plate lies in an inclined plane extending from near the upper edge of the front panel to the line joining the rear lower corners of the walls 3. Cooling air passes into the rear of the unit through the perforations in the deck and out through the perforations in the front panel of the shelf unit above, as shown by the dotted line in Fig. 2. Each shelf unit may support one or more chassis sub-units 9 which are mounted on guide rails 10 on the deck 1. The chassis units are secured in position by quick releasing fastenings 11 and for interconnection of the sub unit circuits, a mounting flange 13 is provided to which sockets may be secured, the wiring being housed in a channel 14.
