Abstract
827,843. Electric tests. HEDSTROM, E. H. L., and TEGHOLM, R. V. Feb. 3, 1956 [Feb. 3, 1955], No. 8225/59. Divided out of 827,842. Class 37. Geophysical surveying apparatus comprises a transmitting unit for setting up an alternating field and spaced receivers carried by a surveying vehicle and feeding devices which indicate the field variation over the receiver spacing. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4 the transmitting coil is mounted in an aircraft 61 while the two receiving coils are in " birds " 62, 63, or the transmitter may be in an aircraft and the receivers in a glider towed by the aircraft, or a second aircraft behind the first. In a still further arrangement a pair of aircraft side by side carry or tow the transmitter and receivers respectively the receivers being arranged in tandem. The outputs of the two receivers are amplified and the following measurements made: (1) phase difference between the two output signals, (2) rate of change of this phase difference, (3) difference or ratio of the output voltages, (4) rate of change of the ratio. The output of one of the receiving coils only may be indicated to allow the pilot of the receivercarrying aircraft to maintain his spacing from the other aircraft.
