Abstract
419,783. Aerials ; wireless receiving systems. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London.-(Assignees of Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia), Ltd. ; 47, York Street, Sydney, Australia.) Feb. 2, 1934, No. 3548. Convention date, Feb. 2, 1933. [Class 40 (v).] An omni-directional receiving system for reducing the effects of locally-produced disturbances, comprises a plurality of angularly disposed loop aerials, balanced electrostatic shielding means surrounding the aerials and means for combining the outputs from the aerials in such relative phase that the receiver responds equally to similar signals received from any direction. As shown, two mutually perpendicular loop aerials 6, 7 are surrounded by non-magnetic metal tubular shields 8, 9 respectively with gaps G therein at the points of intersection and connected to a further shield 10 containing the leads to the receiver R. The input circuit of the receiver comprises a tuned circuit L2, C and a resistance R1 in circuit therewith. The output of one of the loops is fed to a coil L1, inductively coupled to the circuit L2, C and that of the other applied across the resistance R1. The receiver proper may be within an earthed shield 12 connected to the shield 10. In a modification, the two aerials are each connected to a coil inductively coupled to the circuit L2, C, one of the coils being turned and only loosely coupled to the receiver input so that the amplitudes of the two inputs are comparable. In another embodiment switching is introduced to enable the aerial screens to be used themselves as a signal pick-up, in suitable circumstances.
