Abstract

763,184. Geophysical exploration. CANADIAN AIRBORNE GEOPHYSICS, Ltd. Aug. 17, 1954 [Aug. 31, 1953], No. 23909/54. Class 37. In inductive geophysical exploration wherein a transmitting coil energized with low frequency A.C. is trailed by a moving vehicle, and the phase of the signal picked up by a receiving coil is noted to determine the type of local earth strata, the effect of eddy currents produced in the locally associated metal bodies of the vehicles is compensated by one or more auxiliary coils fed with a current which is 90 degrees out-of-phase with that in the main transmitting coil, or by auxiliary metal sheets producing compensating eddy currents. For use with aircraft, the receiving coil is trailed as near to the earth's surface as practical, the tow-line containing the connecting wires, or consisting of a single, thin, steel wire, and the pick-up voltage being transmitted by radio to the aircraft as L.F. modulation of an R.F. voltage. Specification 763,185 is referred to.
