Abstract

In addition to the antioxidants specified in the parent Specification for improving the heat resistance of estersil-filled silicone rubbers, the following are also effective: carbon black, a thiazine such as phenothiazine, N,N1-diphenylethylene diamine, N,N1-di-o-tolylethylenediamine, N,N1 - dioctyldiphenylamine, hydroquinone - monomethyl -, - dibenzyl - and - dimethyl - ethers, 6 - t - butyl - m - cresol and 2.21 - methylene bis (4 - ethyl - 6 - t - butylphenol). The rubber-forming compositions may be cured by heat in the presence or absence of vulcanizing agents, e.g. dithiocarbamate salts, thiourea, strong alkalis, e.g. triethylamine, strong acids (unspecified) and organic peroxides. In examples, curable compositions are composed of an estersil (a butoxy modified silica), a dimethyl- or methylphenylvinylsiloxane, diphenyldisilanol as an antistructure or antinerve agent, zinc oxide and di-t-butyl-, dicumyl-, benzoyl- or 2 : 4-dichlorobenzoyl-peroxide.
