Abstract

827,587. Buffer stops. MITCHELL, F. G. April 9, 1956 [April 7, 1955], No. 10334/55. Class 104 (2). A railway buffer stop comprises a pair of buffers and supporting means being arranged to move the buffers downwardly, laterally and outwardly with respect to a rail track between an operative position in which the buffers are held above the rails in contact with the vehicle buffers and an inoperative position in which the buffers lie outside the track and clear of any vehicle. A pair of hydraulic buffers 1 are supported on beams 2 pivoted to pairs of links 5, 6 pivoted to beams 8 on supports 28 in a V-shaped trough below rail tracks 15. One pair of links 5 is connected to rods 7 pivoted to cranks 12 on the shaft of a toothed wheel 13 driven by a gear 18 on a shaft 14 driven by a motor 23. The shafts 14 are inter-connected by bevel gearing 17. In the operative position the rods and cranks are in dead centre or in over-centre position and retained by the base support 28 acting as a stop. Alternatively the toothed wheel 13 acts as a sun-wheel for a planet-wheel connected to the rods 7, the planet-wheel being supported by the cranks 12.
