Abstract
A cleansing composition is prepared by forming into cakes a mixture of (a) urea and (b) a compound of the general formula R-NH-(CnH2n-NH)x-R1-COOH or a salt thereof with an organic or inorganic acid, wherein R is an alkyl or aralkyl radical having 8 to 18 aliphatic carbon atoms, R1 is an ethylene or propylene residue, n is 2 or 3 and X is 0 or 1. The proportions of urea to amino acid may be from 1 : 1 to 9 : 1 by weight. Mixing may be carried out mechanically at temperatures up to 100 DEG C. or by preparing a solution of both ingredients, e.g. in water or in lower alcohols, and removing the solvent by distillation or spray-drying. Additional substances which may be included are lower polyhydric alcohols, e.g. glycerol and sorbitol; higher alcohols, e.g. lauryl and cetyl alcohols; fatty acid amides; non-ionic or cationic surface active substances, e.g. ethylene oxide condensates of alcohols, acids, amides, amines and alkylphenols; paraffins, neutral fats and waxes; polyglucosides, e.g. starch and its derivatives; runts, dyes and up to 15% of water.ALSO:A cleansing and disinfecting composition is prepared by forming into cakes a mixture of urea and a compound of general formula R-NH-(CnH2n-NH)x-R1-COOH or salt thereof with an organic or inorganic acid, e.g. tartaric or hydrochloric acid, wherein R is an alkyl or aralkyl radical having 8 to 18 aliphatic carbon atoms, R1 is an ethylene or propylene residue, n is 2 or 3 and X is 0 or 1. The proportions of urea to amino acid may be from 1 : 1 to 9 : 1 by weight. Mixing may be carried out mechanically at temperatures up to 100 DEG C. or by preparing a solution of both ingredients, e.g. in water, and removing the solvent by distillation or spray-drying. Lower multi-valent alcohols, e.g. glycerol and sorbitol; higher alcohols, e.g. lauryl and cetyl alcohols; fatty acid amides; non-ionic or cationic boundary surface active substances, e.g. polyethylene ethers; paraffins, neutral fats and waxes; polyglucosides, e.g. starch and its derivatives; scents, dyes and up to 15% water may be included. In an example, 25 parts by weight of dodecyl-b -amino-butyric acid are mixed with 12 parts by weight of tartaric acid and 75 parts of urea in a kneader for 45 minutes at 70-80 DEG C. and made into cakes.
