Abstract

827,299. Controlling guided missiles. PYE Ltd. May 20,1957 [June 26, 1956], No. 19817/56. Class 4. Apparatus for steering a guided missile comprises a plurality of pneumatic jacks D which bear against the forward face of the swivelling jet nozzle C. Each jack communicates at H with the combustion chamber L and, through an adjustable valve J, and aperture G, with atmosphere. To steer the missile one or more valves J are moved from the position shown at the top of the Figure to that shown at the bottom whereby one or more jacks are vented to atmosphere with consequent swivelling of nozzle C. Four jacks are preferably provided but if two are employed, they are set in a rotatable mounting which is rotated to a selected position before the valves J are operated.
