Abstract

827,070. Toothed gearing. SZUTOWICZ, S. July 11, 1956 [June 30, 1955], No. 18890/55. Class 80 (1). A driving shaft 19 carries a sun-gear 18, meshing a planet pinion 21 rotatable in a carrier disc 10 fast with a driven shaft 11, a second planet pinion 24 fast with the first meshing internal teeth on a reaction ring 25 meshing externally with a gear 27 connected to a flat volute spring contained within a drum 29. Changes in the load on the driven shaft 11 cause the reaction ring 25 to rotate against the bias of the volute spring, thereby cushioning shocks. The drum 29 can be turned by operating a worm and worm gear drive 30, 31, and can be locked positively in position by a detent pawl 33. Two similar sets of planet pinions 21 &c. are shown in parallel at each end of the driving and driven shafts 19, 11.
