Abstract
826,749. Moulding " potted" electrical apparatus. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. April 9, 1957 [April 9, 1956], No. 10732/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXXV] A toroidally wound inductor carrying an auxiliary coil is encapsulated in an insulating material. Coil 11 is toroidally wound on a core 10 of magnetic dust material and a second coil 17 comprising a few turns of thicker wire is wound on coil 11. The coils 11 and 17 having external connections 12 and 18 respectively, are placed on a plug 14 of epoxy resin as shown. The plug and inductor are then placed in a mould and a synthetic resin 15 which may be similar to the material of plug 14, is cast around the assembly, with connections 12 and 18 projecting. The setting of the resin 15 alters the inductance of coil 11 and the coil 17 may be. connected in series-aiding or series-opposing relation to coil 11 as required. Part of the resin may be machined away as at 15a in order to engage the turns of coil 17 with contact 20 which is rotatable on shaft 19 and thus provides a variable inductor.
