Class 44 A sliding clasp fastener comprises two stringers each including a tape and a row of interlocking elements, the interlocking elements of at least one of the stringers being formed by portions of the thread or one of the threads from which the tape is plaited, knitted or woven, projecting from the stringer edge in spaced apart relationship. As shown in Fig. 1, the interlocking elements 24 are formed by the weft thread of each tape but in a modification, they can be formed from portions of one of the warp threads. They can also be formed from a weft thread which extends over only part of the width of the stringer. The interlocking elements can be provided with knots or thickenings of any desired shape by stamping, pressing or other hot or cold shaping methods. The marginal warp threads can also be arranged to provide a thread like thickening or other guide means for the slider. In the construction shown in Fig 4, each stringer is made of two woven tapes 50, 51. The tape 50 is of ladder-like construction and is made by omitting the centre warp threads. The tape 50 is folded round the edge of the tape 51 and is fastened to it by sewing or glueing; the centre portions 49 of the weft thread thus form the interlocking elements and the edges 52 of the tape 50 act as guides for the slider.
