Abstract
3-Methylamino isocamphane is prepared by reducing 3-formamido isocamphane with hydrogen under pressure at an elevated temperature and in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst. In examples: (1) the reduction is carried out in methanol in the presence of Raney nickel at 190-5 DEG C. for 7-8 hours with an original hydrogen pressure of 120 atmospheres; (2) the formamido compound is similarly reduced in the presence of copper chromite. Salts are prepared using HCl, HBr, picric acid, and p-acetyl-aminobenzene-sulphonyl chloride. 3-Formamido isocamphane is prepared by treating camphene with sodium cyanide in a mixture of sulphuric acid, acetic acid and benzene, water is added and the product separated as a residue from the organic layer.
