Abstract
A container or conveyance, such as a tipping wagon, coal shoot or steel or concrete bunker having a surface over which particulate material is required to slide under gravity, has the sliding surface provided with a coating of self-hardening or thermosetting synthetic resin applied e.g. by spraying in several layers and having a reinforcing fabric insert embedded in the coating. The fabric may be of wire or non-rotting glass fibres. Fillers cuch as colloidal silicon dioxide, and polymerizable liquid solvents such as styrene, may be applied by spraying. Reactive resin mixtures which may be used include polyesters formed from saturated dicarboxylic acids, polyalcohols and maleic or fumaric acid, mixed immediately before use with, for example, the tri-isocyanate of leuco-para-rosaniline, the reaction products of toluylene di-isocyanates with trimethylolpropane or glycerine, or isocyanatemodified polyesters. Similar mixtures containing styrene which also takes part in the reaction may be used, and part of the isocyanate may be replaced by an epoxy resin. Particles of silicon carbide, crushed glass, or crushed stone may be applied to the top layer surface before the resin hardens and a further layer of resin insufficient to cover the particles completely may then be applied. Similar particles may also be included in earlier layers. Specification 784,214 is referred to.ALSO:A container or conveyance has the sliding surface provided with a coating of self-hardening or thermosetting synthetic resin applied, e.g. by spraying in several layers and having a reinforcing fabric insert embedded in the coating. The fabric may be of wire or non-rotting glass fibres. Reactive resin mixtures which may be used include polyesters formed from terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol or from saturated dicarboxylic acids, polyalcohols and maleic or fumaric acid, mixed immediately before use with, for example, the tri-isocyanate of leuco-para-rosaniline, the reaction products of toluylene di-isocyanates with trimethylolpropane or glycerine, or isocyanate-modified polyesters. Similar mixtures containing styrene which also takes part in the reaction may be used, and part of the isocyanate may be replaced by an epoxy resin. In an example, a coating composition comprises polyethylene terephthalate, silicon carbide, chromium oxide and silicon dioxide in colloidal fineness. Specification 784,214 is referred to.
