[Also in Group XXX] The inverted loaves from a determining apparatus are received by a catcher device which is mounted for orbital movement about the same axis as or a parallel axis to that of a transfer device which is clear of the catcher device when the loaves are deposited thereon and is then moved relatively thereto until the loaves are contained between the devices where they remain as the devices rotate together until the loaves are supported right way up on the transfer device from which they are deposited on a conveyer or the like by abutment means as the transfer device moves on. As shown the loaves 16 are discharged at B into loaf-righting mechanism 17 consisting of transfer device 21 with a counter weight 27a secured by an arm 27 to a shaft 22 on which is rotatably mounted an arm 26 carrying catcher device 20. A spur wheel 24 on a driven shaft of the deturning machine has interrupted gear teeth and meshes with a spur wheel 23 on shaft 22 to drive the latter intermittently. A planet gear 29 pivoted on shaft 30 on arm 27 meshes with a toothed wheel 28, or alternatively with a quadrant, fixed to the machine framework adjacent arm 27 so that, as the arm 27 rotates, gear 29 is rotated and with it a crank 31 secured at one end to shaft 30 and connected at its other end by rod 32 to arm 26. Thus, as arm 27 rotates, arm 26 is moved so that devices 20, 21 come together and separate the loaves being deposited after inversion at a station D by an abutment on the catcher device which engages the loaves and, as the transfer devices moves on being maintained horizontal by a cam device, they are deposited on conveyer 34. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the drive is independent of the detinning machine but is synchronized therewith.
