Abstract

823,718. Snap-action switches. WORNER, A., and ERSING, M., [trading as KAUTT & BUX]. July 13, 1956 [July 25, 1955], No. 21691/56. Class 38 (5). A switch includes an actuating spindle which is retained in discrete angular positions by a spring-loaded member which in different angular positions bears against different flat surfaces of a plate portion of the spindle. In one form, Figs. 1, 2 and 4, the spindle 3 has a cross-piece 4 co-operating with the member 21 and has arcuate contacts 5<SP>1</SP> engageable with fixed contacts 6. A disc 8, which can move axially of the spindle but which rotates therewith, has projections 14 engageable by a plunger 12 on a push-button 9. The member 21 forms the base of a cup 20 biased towards the spindle by a spring 19 which urges the button outwards. On depression of the button, plunger 12 engages a projection 14 and the spindle is rotated through slightly more than 90 degrees; the part 4 of the same time forcing the cup 20 outwardly until the Fig. 4 position is reached whereupon the spring 19 thrusts the cup back again and rotates the spindle further through slightly less than 90 degrees. The next depression of the button causes a further 180 degrees rotation of the spindle, and so on. In another form, Figs. 12-14, the plunger 12 is replaced by a plunger 32 with a sloping face 33 and a stepped face 34, the latter co-operating with a part 31<SP>1</SP> to rotate the spindle 23. At the same time, the face 33 presses the spindle axially against the action of a spring 25. The other end of spindle 23 has two claws 27 which are thus caused to enter recesses 30 in a coupling member 28 and to engage faces 29 of these recesses after slightly more than 90 degrees rotation, the spring 19 causing the remaining rotation of the spindle and of the member 28. Thus the spindle rotates through 180 degrees whilst the coupling member rotates through 90 degrees. The member 28 is connected to a switch shaft 28<SP>1</SP> and the spindle 23 also carries contacts 24. The actuating member may be a rotary member coaxial with the spindle.
