Abstract

823,611 Building panels; partitions. WEST, P. E. H., and AUSTIN, F. B. May 13, 1957 [May 11, 1956; Dec. 5, 1956], Nos. 14814/56 and 37199/56. Classes 20(4) and 87(1) In a sectional partition or wall, adjacent framed sections are secured together by engaging one or more claw bolts provided on one frame member with one or more co-operating keepers on the adjacent frame member, the claw bolts being operable from one side face of the section. One form of section, Fig. 2 (not shown) comprises a rectangular frame with a central groove in its outer face, and horizontal intermediate frame members, the section being wholly or partly closed with hardboard or plywood before or after erection of the frame, any unclad parts being glazed or covered with expanded metal. The panel may be adjustable in height, the upper frame member being slidable on the side members. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) the lower frame member is omitted and a door and fanlight are provided instead of cladding. The claw bolt 17, Fig. 6, is rigidly secured on a shaft 19 rotatable in a hole 20 in the frame member 4. The hole is exposed at one side of the section to receive a key 22 which fits the profiled end 21 of the shaft 19 for rotating the bolt; a cover cap or resilient plug may be used to close the exposed, end of the hole 20. The claw bolt is housed in an arcuate recess 23 or in a slot extending through the frame member. The keeper 18 may consist of an L-shaped bracket having its projecting arm 25 slotted at 26 to receive the tapered hook portion of the bolt 17. In an alternative form, Fig. 11, the keeper comprises a metal rod 48 extending transversely across a longitudinal slot 46 in the frame member 42. Additional securing means comprise fillets 40, Fig. 6, fitted in the registering grooves 8, or dowel pins 53, Fig. 11, engaging in holes 54. The sections are held in position on the floor by the lower grooves 8 being engaged over a metal strip of top-hat section secured to the floor. For retaining the section relatively to the ceiling, a bracket 35, Fig. 9, secured to the ceiling 37 and having downwardly and inwardly directed arms 36 co-operates with the outwardly bent upper edges 39 of plates 38 attached to the upper corners of the frame.
