Transistor repeaters in a coaxial cable system are enclosed in containers buried in the ground so that the repeaters are below the surface of the ground, each container having means whereby the repeaters therein may be raised above the top of the container. Each container 9, Fig. 2, is cylindrical and has, adjacent the top, glands 10, 11 for the incoming and outgoing cables 12, 13, the top being closed by a watertight cover 14. Inside the container is a frame 16, Figs. 4 and 8, having diametrically opposite channels 17, 18 in which slides an intermediate frame 37 in turn comprising channels 38, 39 in which is slidable an inner frame 21 carrying the repeaters such as 23. The frame 21 is connected by a chain 30 to the upper end of frame 16 so that by putting on said chain the frame 21 may be raised from the bottom of the container, where it is normally located, to a position in which it and the intermediate frame 37 projects from the top of the container where it may be retained by catches 31, 41. Normally the frames 21, 37 are secured together by screws but if it is desired to raise frame 21 further, these screws are removed and the frame 21 slid out of the channels 38, 39 as shown in Fig. 8 to an upper position in which it is located by catches 42. Cables 24 looped inside the container connect the repeaters to terminal boards inside the glands 10, 11.
