Abstract

823,491. Batteries of steam boilers. HUET, A. Dec. 16, 1957 [Dec. 17, 1956], No. 39086/57. Class 123(2) In a battery of steam generators each consisting of a column a containing the tubulous heat exchange sections of the generator and heated by the downward flow therethrough of hot gas, for example the coolant .gas from a nuclear reactor, the columns are arranged in rows transversely of and below the main header b supplying the heating gas. Headers, c extending outwardly from the main header convey the gas to the top of each column via tubes k, the columns being arranged in double rows. Each double row of columns discharges coooled gas into a common header m which conveys it into the main discharge header n for return to the heating source, e.g. the nuclear reactor. Each double row of columns is supported by a girder d passing between the rows and supported at its ends on rollers h carried on walls f, g, the girder also supporting the main supply header b to which it is welded. The columns have projecting brackets j which rest on lugs i projecting from the girder, the arrangement being such that an individual column can be easily removed and replaced without interfering with the operation of the battery by disconnecting it and moving it into the space between the double rows whence it may be lifted clear. Moreover, the rollers h allow for lateral expansion movements of the battery, the discharge main being mounted resiliently at o to allow for vertical movement.
