Abstract

A fused cast refractory article consists essentially of crystalline zirconia and alumina in a siliceous glassy matrix and further contains 1 to 2 1/2 % by weight of an alkali oxide and 0,1 to 0,5% of boric oxide. A preferred composition contains 47% alumina, 36% zirconia, 15% silica, 1 1/2 % alkali oxides and 1/2 % boric oxide.
