Abstract
822,848. Photo-electric fluorimeters. EVANS ELECTROSELENIUM Ltd., and COLLINS, G. C. March 25, 1958 [March 28, 1957], No. 10176/57. Class 40 (3). In apparatus for measuring the fluorescence of a liquid exposed to ultra-violet light, the outputs of photo-multipliers 2, 22 receiving fluorescent light from a liquid sample 1 under test and from a standard liquid 23, respectively, are compared by applying them to the whole and to a part of a potentiometer 7 adjustable so as to give a zero reading of a galvanometer 9. Suitable filters 19, 20, 21, 24, 25 are employed. By adjustment of resistances 4, 5, 7, the apparatus is set so as to give zero readings of the galvanometer when the potentiometer slide 10 is set to 0 and 100 respectively with a blank sample 12 and a standard sample 11 in position. The liquids 1, 11, 12 are in containers on a rotary member 26 which carries cams to control switches 28, 31.
