Abstract
822,565. Sun visors for vehicles. AUSTER Ltd., and SMALL, W. W. June 14, 1957 [July 12, 1956], No. 21542/56. Class 103(2) [Also in Group XXV] In an anti-glare visor for motor vehicles a rigid central panel 1, preferably of transparent plastic material which is suitably tinted to prevent glare, extends almost the length of the vehicle windscreen and is clamped at each end to an end member 8 adapted for attachment to the vehicle. The panel 1 is formed with a strengthening flange 2 on its forward edge and with a channelled rib 3 near its rearward edge which is shaped to conform to the contour of the vehicle, and clamped to each end of the panel between metal strips 4, 5 is an end member comprising a sheet metal side plate 6 to which is attached a bracket 9 which carries an attachment plate 10, Figs. 3 and 5, provided with holes 11 for attaching it by bolts to the vehicle. The plate 10 is connected to the bracket 9 by means of set screws 12, 13, the screw 12 passing through an arcuate slot 16 in the bracket and the radius of the slot being centred upon the screw 13 so that the panel 1 can be angularly adjusted relative to the vehicle. The panel 1 may be made of metal and the members 6, 9, 10 may be made of fibre glass. In a modification, Fig. 9, each attachment plate 10 is replaced by a plate 17 and a co-operating adjustable plate 23, for clamping the visor to water drainage channels 27 adjacent the sides of the windscreen.
