Abstract

821,798. Looping wire. HEIN, LEHMANN & CO. A.G. Jan. 14, 1958, No. 1320/58. Class 83 (4). A machine for forming wire with loops at intervals therealong, for example to form a sieve wire, comprises a wire supply drum rotatable about a horizontal axis and turned periodically about a vertical axis to wind the wire around a pin to form loops, and a feed device which intermittently feeds the wire forwards, the periodic movement of the wire drum about the vertical axis being effected by a starwheel drive and the pin and the feed device are hydraulically controlled. A main driving-shaft 5 continuously rotates, through bevel-gears 6, 7 a shaft 7<SP>1</SP> which, through a starwheel drive, rotates intermittently a vertical spindle 34<SP>1</SP> on which a wire supply drum 34 is supported for rotation about a horizontal axis. The star-wheel drive comprises a star-wheel 10 on the spindle 34<SP>1</SP>, the teeth of which engage pins 11 on a disc 8 on the shaft 7<SP>1</SP> for half of every revolution of this shaft to turn the spindle 34<SP>1</SP> one revolution, a swallow-tailed part 13 on the star-wheel 10 engaging a locking portion 12<SP>11</SP> of a disc 12 on the shaft 7<SP>1</SP> to hold the spindle 34<SP>1</SP> stationary for half of every revolution of the shaft 7<SP>1</SP>. Rotation of the spindle 34<SP>1</SP> and with it the drum 34 winds wire 3 in a loop around a pin 26. When the spindle 34<SP>1</SP> is stationary the pin 26 is lowered by hydraulic means 29 under control of a valve 22 actuated, through a rod 23, by a cam 9 on the shaft 7<SP>1</SP>. A feed-pin 25 is then raised by hydraulic means 33, controlled by the valve 22, to engage a loop already formed in the wire and is then moved horizontally by hydraulic means 31 controlled by the valve 22, to feed the wire forward. The pin 26 is again raised, together with a pin 24 which engages a loop already formed, and another loop is wound. The looped wire 3 is fed under tools 2 and 4, driven by eccentrics on the driving shaft 5, which press the wire loops.
