[Also in Group XXXIV] In a railroad shoe (see Group XXXIV) the composition friction body 22 is anchored to a metal support 21 by flanges 23, 24 and tabs 35 cut and bent out of the support 21 or affixed thereto, toe-guides 30, 31, end stop 25, 26, 28, 29 and an attaching lug 32 with a key-way 33 are likewise formed or attached to the support 21 on its convex side for attaching the shoe to a brake head, openings 36, adjacent tabs 35, and openings 37 are also cut in the support 21 into which the body 22 is moulded to assist in anchoring the body to the support. In embodiments, Figs. 6-17, not shown, the tabs 35 are replaced by ring-like projections formed by punched countersunk holes, and a reinforcing metal mesh-type member is added to the composition body.
