Abstract

819,375. Unwinding. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Sept. 19, 1957 [Sept. 19, 1956], No. 28649/56. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XVII] A device for unwinding a coil of small-diameter soft wire comprises a support for said coil and a substantially funnelshaped wire guiding and straightening member secured to said support, the wire being withdrawn from the coil through the neck of said funnel-shaped member, the arrangement being such that in operation the walls of said funnel-shaped member serve to reduce progressively the radius of curvature of the wire. A funnel 10 is bolted to the top of an annular container 2 in which a coil 1 of wire is placed. A light weight ring 6 is placed on top of the coil 1 to prevent more than one turn of wire at a time from being freed therefrom. The ring 6 and inner wall of the container 2 are formed with flanges 7, 5, respectively. The wire is withdrawn from a neck 13 of the funnel 10 by any conventional means.
