Abstract

A packaging container is provided with a self-supporting lining by drawing a sheet of heat-softened thermoplastic material into it by means of a vacuum. Infra-red heating may be used. If the container has not sufficient imperfections to permit the passage of air through it, it may be perforated at appropriate places. The container preferably has internal projections or depressions that can be followed by the lining and which tend to prevent its removal, the lining being even more permanently fixed within the container, if desired, by applying an adhesive to its interior surface before the vacuum-forming process. The lining may be of cellulose acetate, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, acrylic resins, including methyl polymethacrylate, and high-flowing toughened polystyrenes containing natural or synthetic rubber incorporated by blending or by graft copolymerization. The lid may be similarly lined.
