818,834. Frequency modulation. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 27, 1957 [Oct. 4, 1956], No. 30328/57. Class 40 (5). A frequency-modulated oscillator comprises valves connected in parallel to a common tuned anode circuit L1, C1, C2, C3 both directly and inductively coupled to a second tuned circuit C4, C5, L2 connected between control grids of the valves so that oscillation maintaining and quadrature phase feedback are both applied to the grids, and modulation applied in push-pull to the same grids varies the relative mutual conductance of the valves and the phase of the vector sum of the two outputs, to produce frequency variation of the oscillator. A resistance R is inserted in the grid tuned circuit to increase its bandwidth. The mean frequency may be altered or stabilized by differential control voltages applied in series with the modulation. A rectifier G and smoothing circuit R-C connected to the anode circuit may apply negative feedback in series with the frequency control differential voltages to stabilize the amplitude of the oscillations generated.
