818,578. Seaming. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. Oct. 25, 1957 [Nov. 1, 1956], No. 33346/57. Class 42 (1). A process for joining together sheet material comprising a water-insoluble alkali-soluble cellulose derivitive comprises the steps of impregnating the material with urea, wetting the areas of the material to be joined with a solution having an alkali concentration of at least 1 per cent and pressing the ureas together while wet. The material may comprise alkali soluble hydroxyethyl cellulose and a small amount of a plasticizer such as polyhydric alcohol may be incorporated in the solution to avoid brittleness of the joint. The impregnation with urea is made while the material is in a dry condition. The wetted ureas to be joined may be brought close together and chilled before the water-solution has substantially left the ureas.
